Re: Supplement request for roof replacement scope
Dear {Adjuster name},
We are the roofing contractor for the property above. While preparing to complete the roof replacement in your estimate dated {estimate date}, we found items that are required to complete the work but are missing or short on the estimate.
Each item below lists the quantity on your estimate, the quantity required from the measurement report, and the code or manufacturer requirement. Prices use the unit prices already on your estimate where a matching line exists.
1. Drip edge: estimate 0 LF, required {eaves + rakes} LF. IRC R905.2.8.5 requires drip edge at eaves and rakes.
2. Starter course: estimate {x} LF, required {eaves + rakes} LF. Required by the shingle manufacturer's installation instructions.
3. Steep-slope charge, removal: estimate 0 SQ, required {x} SQ at {pitch}. Applies to removal as well as installation.
4. {Item}: estimate {x}, required {y}. {Code or reason}.
Total supplement requested: ${total} (before overhead and profit).

Please review and issue a revised estimate. We are glad to meet on site if a re-inspection is needed. Contact me at {phone} or {email}.
Sincerely,

Build one freeWhat gets supplements approved
- 1
One item per line, with numbers
Carrier quantity, required quantity, unit, and the source of the required number. Adjusters approve math faster than arguments.
- 2
Cite the code or the manufacturer
IRC sections for drip edge, ice barrier and flashing; the shingle manufacturer's instructions for starter and ridge cap. Attach the page.
- 3
Use the carrier's own prices
Price missing items with unit prices already on the carrier's estimate. It is the hardest number to argue with.
- 4
Attach photos labeled by slope
One photo per item: the pipe boot, the sidewall, the bare eave with no drip edge.
- 5
Stay in your lane
Describe the scope of work you need to complete the job. Don't negotiate coverage or settlement for the homeowner; several states restrict contractors from doing that.
